Who we are
Ryan
Plays: Vocals & Guitar
From: Manchester
Influences: The Killers, Fontaines D.C. & Catfish and the Bottlemen
Bio:
Born to a proud Irish family in Manchester/Stockport, into a community famed for its rich musical and storytelling culture, Ryan's first memories of music are soundtracked by songs from The Dubliners and Oasis.
Despite growing up in a house full of guitars, due to his Dad and older brother's obsessions with music, Ryan didn't begin to play in earnest until the age of 14, when a video of Catfish and the Bottlemen playing live at a festival ignited an obsession for live indie-rock music (The name 'The Streetlights' would later come from one of their lyrics).
He began writing songs at 18 as an escape from a global pandemic, and worked on his craft daily up until the point that he was contacted by Matty, responding to an advert he had put out. From here The Streetlights began to take shape...
Matty
Plays: Lead Guitar
From: Hull
Influences: The Strokes, Wunderhorse & RHCP
Born in Hull and raised in North Lincolnshire, Matty "Garmy" Garmston first discovered his love for music at 14, playing a cigar box guitar handmade by his grandad.
As the only musician in his family, his grandfather became one of Matty's biggest influences and the spark that set him on his musical path. A self-taught guitarist with a deep passion for Rock, Indie, and Alternative music, Matty draws inspiration from bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Strokes. After moving to Manchester, and responding to a musicians wanted advert, he met Ryan and the story of the band began. In his own humble words Matty: "brings raw energy, melody, and heart to The Streetlights' sound"
Max
Plays: Drums
From: Whitehaven
Influences: Nothing But Thieves, Paramore & Mcfly
Bio:
“Just put the entire script of the bee movie, then add i play sticks at the end”
Owen
Plays: Bass
From: St Helens
Influences: RATM, Vulfpeck & Jamiroquai
Born and bred in St. Helens, rich in Rugby League success, lacking in music royalty in comparison to the surrounding cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Owen picked up the bass guitar for the first time at 12, and played in multiple bands with friends from school before beginning studies at BIMM Manchester.
In search of new opportunities, Owen found a flyer for a band, searching for a bassist. On the 12th of March, Owen reached out to 'The Streetlights' on instagram, and the rest is history.
